Assistant manager Mark Greaves believes Liversedge need to look at collecting six points out of their next two games

Mark Greaves has urged Liversedge to pick up maximum points from their next two games so distance is put between them and the relegation zone.

Weather-permitting, ‘Sedge will host Toolstation NCEL Premier Division strugglers Armthorpe Welfare tomorrow before a trip to bottom-placed Glasshoughton Welfare next week.

Alan Colquhoun is back at the helm tomorrow after the missing the 1-1 draw at Garforth Town because of family commitments.

Assistant manager Greaves held the fort as ‘Sedge stemmed the run of four straight defeats and Colquhoun’s number two says his side face two big fixtures.

“It was a big relief to get that point, especially with these two games coming up,” former Yorkshire Amateur manager Greaves told Non League Yorkshire.

“There is a danger we may get sucked back into it (relegation fight). Before Saturday we dropped to fifth bottom and were only nine points clear of Nostell and Glasshoughton.

“Nostell are obviously changing things. We also let, third and fourth bottom, Armthorpe and Retford get to within three points of us.

“We are up to four points clear of them and now with games against Glasshoughton and Armthorpe, we’re looking at when we can achieve mid-table again.

“They’re really important games because they are teams we are down there with.

“It is important we don’t lose, but I’d like to think we can beat them both. If we get six points, we could be 16 clear of Glasshoughton which is a lot for them to recover.

“Again with Armthorpe, with a win we could be seven clear and instead of looking down, we could be looking at the middle four or five teams.”

Last month Colquhoun spoke of his desire to try and push ‘Sedge into the top ten after masterminding a “complete re-build” of the team.

However, since then, four defeats on the spin followed before the draw at Garforth. Greaves just hopes the corners has been turned.

Looking back at those four games, Greaves added:“We played Tadcaster at home on the back of an excellent performance in the County Cup.

“We gave a penalty away in the first minute and the lad (Glen O’Gara) got booked and then after 15 minutes, he got a second yellow and got sent off.

“We came in at half-time 2-0 down and then they scored four in the last ten minutes so it wasn’t as bad as the score suggests.

“We then lost 5-0 to Clipstone and I think we felt a bit sorry for ourselves and we’ve made a few changes.

“If we get our strongest side out, we do ok, but we seem to have hit a bad patch.

“But on Saturday the lads dug in and the lads have to show that battling quality again.”
