Marcus Newell believes Cleethorpes Town are capable of finishing in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division top ten.
Cleethprpes have surprised many this season by how easily they have adapted to life in the top-flight and the 3-0 win at Tadcaster showed how far they have come.
The Owls are up to sixth and Newell told Non League Yorkshire: “Each time I watch us, I see that we are coming on.
“We have had a dip two games ago, but when we play well we really good, but when we are bad, we’re really bad.
“As a whole, we’re definitely getting better week on week.
“We’re miles above my pre-season expectations.
“Bearing in mind that we have just come up, I’d say it was just to stay-up in this league.
“Now we have done pretty well so if we were to finish in the top ten, I think that would be massive for us.
“I’d like to think we are capable of doing it. We have put ourselves into a great position going into the New Year.
“Two games ago when we played Bridlington away, I was thinking ‘crikey, that wasn’t very good’ and ‘where are we going to get our next win from’?
“We then go away and get a decent bit of luck against Pickering when their ‘keeper got sent off and then win 6-2.
“Now with the confidence back after Tuesday, you’re thinking when are we going to lose?”
Cleethorpes are due to host Athersley Recreation tomorrow and confidence is sky high.
The victory at Tadcaster was a huge statement and Newell, looking back on Tuesday night, added: “I was really pleased.
“I told the lads at half-time that we need to believe that we can compete at this level because a lot of my lads are 19-21-year-old.
“We did do. I thought we were the better team from start to finish.
“I was just hoping in the last ten minutes that we wouldn’t concede because I don’t think 3-1 would have reflected the game.
“In the league, since I have been here, this is the best result we have had.”
