Craig Wilkinson has decided against taking sole control of Glasshoughton
Glasshoughton Welfare are searching for a new manager after Craig Wilkinson reluctantly decided against taking sole control.
Wilkinson resigned on Thursday night after a meeting with the club’s hierarchy. He was hoping to appoint an assistant to replace joint manager Simon Houghton, who stepped down last week.
However, the former Hemsworth and Worsbrough striker’s search failed, forcing his departure from Leeds Road.
“I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to find a suitable assistant and it has been very difficult,” Wilkinson told Non League Yorkshire.
“Most turned it down because of other commitments. Let’s also not forget that being involved at this level is a big commitment.
“So it is with great regret that I’m stepping down. The club don’t want me to go and neither do I.
“But the other thing is that I miss most of pre-season because of a family holiday so I would need someone helping me.
“I’m gutted and so are the players because we all think we had a real chance of doing something next season.”
Wilkinson and Houghton were appointed in December and made an instant impact by quickly guiding Welfare away from danger.
