Birthday boy Simpson nets winner

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Garforth Town 2-1 Bridlington Town

Birthday boy Mark Simpson scored the winner for Garforth

Prodigal son and birthday boy Mark Simpson hit the late winner to guide Garforth Town to a win over Bridlington Town.

The hard-fought victory ended Garforth’s five match winless run in all competitions, ahead of two difficult games against Handsworth Parramore and AFC Mansfield.

It took until close to half-time for Garforth to break the deadlock. Prior to that there had been many warnings as Lee Turner hit the crossbar and Simpson went close with a delicate chip.

It was Turner’s superb solo effort that put the Miners in front. The local lad had the vision to break from midfield and go past Brid goalkeeper Phil Dobson before scoring.

Brid levelled matters with a Jake Day header in the 72nd minute, but the scores remained level for only four minutes.

Dan Coupland and Turner were the orchestrators with a piece of brilliance which ended with Simpson finishing coolly.
