Kieran Hirst scored the important second goal in Worsbrough Bridge’s 2-1 win at Rossington Main

Early goals from player/manager Lee Morris and Kieran Hirst guided Worsbrough Bridge to their first league win in five attempts.

The Barnsley-based outfit won 2-1 at Ryan Hindley’s Rossington Main to move above Glasshoughton Welfare and stay within three points of Christian Fox’s Selby Town.

Morris and former Parkgate striker Hirst both struck in the opening 16 minutes and they nearly put the game to bed when midfield brain-box Liam Owen’s effort cannoned back off the crossbar.

Almost instantly Rossington hit back with their prodigal son Lee Holmes netting from close range.

Fortunately for Worsbrough, they were able to hold on for the three points.

Armthorpe Welfare, who have had a really positive start to the season, were surprisingly beaten 6-1 at Shirebrook Town. Armthorpe’s Gareth Roberts cancelled out an early Shirebrook goal, but the floodgates opened close to half-time and the home side had hit six by the 66th minute mark.
