Swinburn double helps Rec secure big win

Kane Swinburn’s double helped Athersley Rec complete a sensational 4-1 victory over Grimsby Borough to continue their revival.

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division bottom side Rec are now four points behind Bottesford Town and showing real signs of pulling off the great escape. Rec have taken five points from a possible 12 – with the only defeat coming after pushing Yorkshire Amateur all the way.

In a dream first half against Grimsby, Shane Kelsey’s opener was cancelled out by Adam Drury, but Swinburn (2) and Declan Slater secured the points for Athersley.

Bottesford were beaten 2-0 by Eccleshill United thanks to Tabish Hussain and Jonny Irving.

Thackley are up to ninth after Daniel Broadbent, James Rothel and Owen Murphy (2) eased them to a 4-0 win over Albion Sports.

Silsden lost 3-0 at home to Barton Town.
