Bridge one win away from first Senior Cup final appearance since 1973

Billy Rhodes headed Worsbrough ahead

Worsbrough Bridge are one win away from their first Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup final since 1973 after easing past Emley in a 3-0 win in the quarter-final tie in Barnsley.

Lee Morris’ Bridge will face either Penistone Church, Frickley Athletic or Sheffield FC to end an almost 50-year wait since losing 4-1 to Worksop Town at Rotherham United’s old home Millmoor in the Seventies.

Worsbrough raced out of the blocks, taking the game to Emley and finding themselves two-up after just half-an-hour. Key man Billy Rhodes’ bullet header placed them ahead and Kai Hancock had the simplest of finishes for the second.

Emley look well on course on ending their long wait for promotion from Step 6 as they are second in their respective North West Counties Division, but they had no answer for Worsbrough in the second half.

An own goal from Rob Bordman, who played for Worsbrough during the Josh Wright era, sealed the victory.
