Barnes guides Pickering through

FA Trophy Round-Up

Jason Barnes got the winner for Pickering Town

Young Jason Barnes fired Pickering Town through into the third round qualifying of the FA Trophy.

Steve Roberts’ side impressively beat Trafford 1-0 in an end-to-end encounter at Mill Lane.

Jack Johnson kept Pickering in it in the first half after clearing a Trafford off-the-line.

Soni Fergus had the home side’s best chances of the first half.

Harry Jessop then kicked off the second half by rounding the goalkeeper before his chance was cleared off-the-line.

The winning goal came on the hour mark when Barnes pounced after Jake Watson’s effort was saved.

Brighouse Town lost 1-0 at Kendal Town.

Damian Reeves’ last minute goal was a mere consolation in Pontefract Collieries’ 4-1 defeat to a strong Workington side.

One of the other North East giants Marske United, who beat two leagues higher Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup, won 4-0 at Stocksbridge Park Steels.
