Railway fail to make domination count in defeat

Harrogate Railway 0-1 Retford FC

Albert Ibrahimi missing one of two golden chances

Despite dominating the entire second half, Harrogate Railway suffered their first defeat of the season as a goal on the stroke of half-time snatched all three points for Retford FC.

Railway could just not break down a very-organised Retford side who even had striker goal-scorer Wonham sent off early in the second half.

Although there was an element of smash and grab to their win because of the timing and against the run of play nature to their goal, Retford worked extremely hard to claim the three points.

The home side had hit the bar in the first half and Kieran Greenway had also gone through one-on-one with goalkeeper Jon Kennedy.

Railway, who weren’t impressed with referee Liam Hewitt over two stonewall penalty appeals, wasted two point blank range killer chances through Albert Ibrahimi.

What They Said

Harrogate Railway manager Mick O’Connell

“I don’t think I’ve seen such a one-sided game in my life when we’ve got beat.

“We missed three very good chances in the first half and their goal comes from a mistake by us.

“If we take our chances in the first half and it is 3-1 at half-time and we take the game away from them.

“I thought we played very well in the second half but we haven’t taken our chances.

“That game could have been five, six or seven with the chances we missed.

“We had two blatant penalties not given and I don’t know how he hasn’t given them?”
