Ossett Town ended their four-game losing run with 3-2 victory at Sheffield FC in the Doodson Sport Cup first round tie.
The World’s Oldest Club took the lead through Zephaniah Thomas, but defender Nick Wood levelled for Ossett on 11 minutes. Calum Ward then scored his second goal in a week to put Craig Elliott’s men in front.
Fernando Moke added a third goal on 83 minutes before Andrew Gascoigne’s strike for Sheffield set up a nervy finale.
Ossett held on and they travel to Darlington 1883 next Wednesday for their second round clash.
In the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, Glasshoughton Welfare and Liversedge both received heavy beatings in their long away games.
A threadbare Glasshoughton team lost 7-0 at Long Eaton United, while Liversedge lost 8-2 at strugglers Staveley Miners Welfare.
A much-changed Garforth Town side lost 3-0 at Bridlington Town – James Bennett (2) and Jamie Reeson the scorers.
Athersley Recreation left it late to beat high-flying Albion Sports 1-0 – former Ossett Albion man Jason Bentley found the net with just two minutes of normal time remaining.
Brighouse Town’s tilt at the title stalled for the second consecutive game as Barton Town Old Boys held them to a 1-1 draw – Danny Nadiole struck for Brighouse.
Bottom-placed Nostell Miners Welfare lost 6-0 at home to Basford United.
In the League Cup second round, Craig Tonkinson and Matthew Hall scored as Thackley won 2-0 at Armthorpe, who have not won since September.
An extra-time goal from Ged Dalton earned Pickering Town a 1-0 over Worsbrough Bridge.
Selby Town needed a penalty shootout to see of Maltby Main. Jason Price and Luke Hall scored in normal time before Selby won 4-2 on penalties.
