John Pool believes one of the big successes of Toolstation’s sponsorship of the Western League is their support for referee development.
Mr Pool, the chairman of the Western League, was praising his sponsors ahead of the Toolstation final which was held at Staveley Miners Welfare on Saturday afternoon.
Toolstation also joined forces with the Northern Counties East League last summer and Mr Pool said: “The sponsorship has allowed us to offer much more support to our clubs.
“It has allowed us to pursue numerous things, all be it standard stuff like Charter Standard.
“We have managed to resurrect things like the Western League Referee’s Association which is something which had become defunct.
“We gave that financial support. We’ve helped them run training days and as regards the benefits, they would appreciate they probably wouldn’t achieve as much in terms of training days without that financial support.
“The membership is growing and I believe that is on the back of the support we get from Toolstation.
“The standard is better without a shadow of doubt.”

Toolstation commercial director Neil Carroll presents Bristol Manor Farm captain Jordan Metters with the Toolstation Cup

The Toolstation Final, which Bristol Manor Farm beat Knaresborough Town 1-0, was organised by the tools firm to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboats Institution and Asthma UK.
World Cup referee Howard Webb and Toolstation commercial director Neil Carroll presented the trophy to Bristol captain Jordan Metters.
Mr Pool added: “Today’s very important as it is an opportunity for all the nine years of sponsorship from Toolstation to actually show something in return.
“We have sponsored something close to Toolstation’s heart in the RNLI.
“We feel we need to be able to show our appreciation of the sponsorship and this is pretty much the first opportunity.
“We’re delighted the NCEL are also sponsored by Toolstation. It gives us the joint opportunity to be able to indicate how important the sponsorship is.
“Certainly the benefits our clubs in the Western League have accrued is irreplaceable.
“As sponsorship goes today, everyone would appreciate how difficult it is to run football at our level.”
