Hallam to run through brick walls

Ryan Hindley is tasked with bringing Hallam “back to the surface”

Recruiting players who will run through “brick walls” is the first target for new Hallam chief Ryan Hindley.
Hindley is the man tasked with dragging “the fifth biggest club in Sheffield” out of relegation danger in Toolstation NCEL Division One.
Hindley was confirmed as Steve Toyne’s permanent replacement earlier this week and he faces a huge task to revive their fortunes as Hallam are bottom and yet to record even a point after ten games.
Hindley, whose side host Shirebrook Town tomorrow, told Non League Yorkshire: “From what I can see and that’s with no disrespect to Steve, they have gone through a lot of players.
“Too many players have come and gone and nobody wants to play for a team bottom of the league with no points.
“It is now my job to bring it back to the surface.
“Hopefully we can stabilise the team with 18 or 19 lads who will run through brick walls.
“We have no points so we have to improve quickly.
“There is a lot of hard work ahead.”
Hindley took charge for the first time on Tuesday night in the penalty shootout win over Wombwell in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup tie.
The 32-year-old has played for the likes of Halifax, Belper Town and Matlock Town and was playing for Clipstone before the appointment.
His managerial experience is from the successful Sheffield Sunday League side The Royal Earl for whom Hindley says he “had also some of the best talent in Sheffield out and getting them to pay £5 subs each week to play”.
He now wants to see some of the best talent available on show at Hallam as he aims to save one of the NCEL’s crown jewels.
“People come from all over the world to take pictures,” he said.
“Hallam is not a household name, but people know of Hallam and Sheffield Club because Hallam has the oldest ground and Sheffield Club is the oldest club in the world.
“As a club Hallam can’t really go any further because of the ground and cricket so I want to make Hallam a hotbed of talent.
“You don’t want to lose players, but I want young players playing for Hallam and developing themselves knowing that they might get the chance of getting moves to higher levels.”
Hindley will be registered as a player, but does not intend on featuring at the moment.
The referee for Hallam’s clash with Shirebrook is Drew Dutton.
