Albion surrender lead to Droylsden

Tim Taylor got Ossett Albion’s goal in the 3-1 defeat to Droylsden

Ossett Albion went in at the interval leading by the only goal but managed to give away three goals in the second half in the 3-1 defeat to Droylsden in the Evo Stik Division One North.

The first half was entertaining with Droylsden doing plenty of running but failing to trouble Brett Souter in the Albion goal. The only worrying moment was a shot across goal from a free-kick on the left edge of the penalty area which went wide.

Albion looked to be in control and began to pressurise the Droylsden defence. This pressure paid dividends when Tim Taylor latched on to a defensive lapse and beat Craig Ellison in the Droylsden goal.

Five minutes later Albion almost doubled their lead when Taylor again pounced on another defensive error and put the ball across goal for Connor Bower. It seemed a simple task to slot the ball home but Bower put his shot over the bar.

The second half saw Droylsden come out in determined mood to get back into the game and they did just that within five minutes of the restart. From a free-kick on the right of the box the cross went to the near post where Ben Deegan nodded the ball into the net.

Albion tried to keep the pressure on the Droylsden defence and Luke Sharry received the ball from a short corner kick and crossed to the far post. Wes Milnes nodded the ball back across goal but the goalkeeper intercepted.

After a tussle in the Albion area, Droylsden were awarded a penalty which was converted by Ciaran Kilheeney even though Souter dived the correct way and got a hand to it.

Albion still had chances to get back into the game and Bower latched on to a back-pass but rolled his shot wide when he seemed to have time to go round the goalkeeper.

Then a long ball out of defence by Droylsden cleared the Albion defender and Souter raced out of his goal. He failed to get the ball and Jack Hibbs had the simple task of rolling it into the net to seal the win for the visitors.

Albion will feel that this was a game they could have got something out of if they had managed to take their chances as well as Droylsden did.
