Marcus Newell believes a top four finish for Cleethorpes Town is a “fantastic” achievement.

League Cup finalists Cleethorpes are assured of a place in the top four and they can still nick the runners-up spot from under the noses of Worksop Town and Tadcaster Albion.

That is provided results go their way.

Cleethorpes host Tadcaster tomorrow and Newell told Non League Yorkshire: “Saturday is a big game because it is the next game.

“I just want to see us progress and I think I’ve always said it is about the progression.

“As long as we moving forward and playing well at the right times and the lads are learning, I’m happy.

“To finish second would be great, but to finish in the top four would be fantastic.

“When we set out at the beginning of the season, I said as along as we don’t get relegated, it is a good season.

“So to finish in the top four which is guaranteed, is fantastic.”

Cleethorpes meet Tadcaster just 48 hours after their spectacular 4-1 win in the League Cup semi-final at i2i Sports Stadium.

Tadcaster could not cope with Cleethorpers’ strikers Marc Cooper and Brody Robertson.

Talking about the game-plan, Newell added: “We put the ball in the right areas.

“We knew if we put the ball in front of them that they would eat it up.

“We knew we had to get round the sides of them and get them turned around early on and from then we looked quite lively.

“We do have a lot of pace in the side as well which always helped.

“The brilliant start got rid of a few nerves.

“The lads worked hard. We pressed as a team so I’m pleased.”
