Halifax win the FA Trophy at Wembley

FA Trophy

FC Halifax Town 1-0 Grimsby Town

Scott McManus won the FA Trophy for FC Halifax Town on their first ever appearance at Wembley.

McManus struck in the second half against Grimsby, who will be in the Football League next season. The victory is a reward for the club’s supporters who watched their side fall out of the National League Premier three weeks ago.

The triumph could also be a farewell for manager Jim Harvey as he is expected to be replaced by North Ferriby boss Billy Heath this week.

The winning goal came straight after half-time. McManus pounced after Grimsby failed to help their goalkeeper James McKeown who had punched a Richard Peniket cross clear. The ball dropped to McManus and he looped it past the stopper from 25 minutes.
