Goalkeeper Steven Drench has ended his long association with Guiseley and signed for their local rivals FC Halifax Town.

Drench goes down in Lions history as one of their greatest goalkeepers having been a major part of their most successful periods of history. He was originally signed by Steve Kittrick in 2010 after Jon Worsnop became injured in pre-season. He then went onto establish himself as their number one stopper when Worsnop became fit again.

“The club has always treated my family and I with kindness and respect especially we needed it the most over the past 18 months,” Drench said.

“I could continue for days, but I would like to thank Mark (Bower), Bosh (Danny Boshell) and Martin (Stringfellow) for allowing me to be part of history at this club.

“Thanks also to Bob (Jeffray), Susan, Adie (Towers), Phil (Rogerson) and the late Craig (Shearstone) and a host of other volunteers who have made this club an honour to represent.”

Guiseley boss Mark Bower said: “We’re obviously disappointed to lose a goalkeeper of Steven’s quality, but we thank him for his efforts over the past 6 years.”

Guiseley have offset his departure with the signing of Altrincham winger Nicky Clee. Young Luke Porritt has also signed a new contract.
