Nostell Miners Welfare chairman Kevin Allsop after the Leeds 10k race

Nostell Miners Welfare chairman Kevin Allsop has set a challenge to potential sponsors ahead of the York 10k next month.

Mr Allsop wants 12 businesses to pledge £250 each sponsorship. If he doesn’t complete the race in less than an hour, he will refund the pledges, but still let them sponsor the club at no cost.

On Sunday morning he ran the Leeds 10k with his daughter and crossed the finish line after one hour and ten minutes.

Mr Allsop has been chairman of Nostell since June last year. Despite very trying on-the-field problems, he has done a magnificent job in helping to keep the whole ship afloat.

He has a clear vision of how he wants Nostell to move forward and the appointments of Mark Booth as director of football, Des Hazel as first team manager and Wayne Ball as player/coach are aimed at delivering that vision.
