Selby Town 3-2 Retford United

Nick Kennedy equalised for Selby from the penalty spot

Selby Town were able to kick-start the exciting new era under Christian Fox by grabbing their first victory of the season in a tight contest with Retford United.

Selby showed great character to recover from being a goal down. Former York City youngster Nick Kennedy cancelled out Kyle Wesley’s opener by converting a penalty.

Selby then took the game to their visitors in the second half. Wing wizard Joe Dale added the second with a header.

Kieran Harris scored Selby’s third with an unbelievable 30-yard which rocketed home off the underside of the crossbar with nine minutes left on the clock.

Zak Khaufa set up a frantic finish with a further goal for Retford, but Selby held out.

The match ended with a mini brawl which ended with the dismissal of Retford’s Craig Laight. Selby goalkeeper Josh Archer saw yellow for his part in the ruckus.
