Glasshoughton ease to victory

Toolstation NCEL Division One

Glasshoughton Welfare 3-0 Shirebrook Town

Glasshoughton’s captain Braveheart Gaz Hunter and double goal-scorer Gracjan Klimczak were the official joint man of the match winners

Star striker Gracjan Klimczak struck twice as in-form Glasshoughton Welfare jumped up to fifth after a easy victory over Shirebrook Town at Leeds Road.

Klimczak hit the opener in the fourth minute and Welfare never had to move up to fourth gear as the striker got on the score-sheet again after a goal from Matthew Semley.

Shirebrook, who are in a transition phase following the departure of manager Rob Camm, offered little resistance. Their efforts can’t be knocked though as all their players put in a shift for their new managers Alan and Lee Widdowson and

Darren Holmes and Lee Vigars’ men enjoyed a dream start as the opening goal was scored in the fourth minute. It was ricochet-city as Shirebrook failed to clear their lines. Young Jack Knight eventually got a shot away. It was blocked, but the ball fell nicely for Klimczak to side-foot the ball home.

Shirebrook did have one clear chance, but a certain goal for 7 was denied by the heroic and lion-hearted Matt Cunliffe, whose courageous block kept his side in front. It was the type of their block their captain Braveheart Gaz Hunter would have been proud of.

From there it was all Glasshoughton. Ryan Ferguson should have made it two after breaking clear, but he took forever to shoot to an extent that Shirebrook’s defence were able to get back and stop him.

A second goal was inevitable and it was similar to the opener. Knight was involved again. It was his run down the left that opened the door and Shirebrook failed to deal with the ball once it reached the penalty area. Former Goole AFC winger Semley latched onto it and finished with ease.

Both goalkeepers were spectators for a lot of the second half. Home goalkeeper Mat Zaniewski literally had nothing to do, whereas Levi Owen was busy on a few occasions.

Ultimately it was all about when would Glasshoughton score the decisive third. That came with 15 minutes remaining and Klimczak got it after getting behind Shirebrook’s back-line.

All-in-all, a solid performance from Glasshoughton, who were strong in all areas.
