Nicholas parts company with Athersley

Graham Nicholas has left his role as manager of Athersley Rec

Graham Nicholas has left Athersley Rec after just one competitive game in charge.

The former Garforth Town manager leaves the Rec following the disastrous Toolstation NCEL Premier Division opening day 6-0 defeat at Goole AFC.

Prior to the Goole match, Athersley had endured a torrid pre-season because of the poor weather during July. The Rec only played two fixtures – the 7-1 defeat to a Barnsley X1 and the 1-0 win over Horbury Town.

The lack of a pre-season clearly hindered Athersley’s efforts to gain a positive result on the opening day.

Pete Goodlad will take the helm for the FA Cup clash with Padiham on Saturday.

Nicholas, who has also previously managed Nostell Miners Welfare and Parkgate, only arrived at Rec in May having being named as Luke Potter’s successor.
