Heroic captain Jack Stockdill hammered Ossett United to a first win of the season and completed the comeback in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Widnes at Ingfield.

Wayne Benn’s Ossett mounted an all guns blazing fight-back in the final ten minutes to turbo charge their campaign.

Ossett were losing 2-0 after just 25 minutes. Although they hit back instantly when Harry Gagen crossed for Nash Connolly to score with a diving header, 2-1 is how it remained until the climax.

The turning point was the dismissal of Widnes player/co-manager Kev Towey for a second bookable offence after a theatrical fall in the penalty.

Ossett then threw kitchen sink after kitchen sink in search and they got their rewards after a severe bombardment to Widnes’ goal.

Stockdill hit the crossbar before new signing Jack Normanton turned in a close range header to equalise. The rest was left to Stockdill who blasted home the winner two minutes later.

Damian Reeves scored twice in Pontefract Collieries’ 6-2 defeat at Colne.
