Winterton Rangers manager Darren Waring believes his club can be pleased with their season considering the team was “thrown together” at the start.

Winterton are hoping to finish the Toolstation NCEL Division One season on high and continue their three-match unbeaten with a home win over Grimsby Borough tomorrow.

But, looking back at the past eight months, Waring told Non League Yorkshire: “The season has been a big success for us.

“We did really well in the FA Cup and the Vase.

“It’s been a new squad thrown together at the start of the season, and they’ve impressed us immediately,

“Ee’ve even had Scunthorpe United coming in and borrowing a midfielder for their youth team on occasions so it’s clear that our young players are highly rated in the area.”

“This season was all about surviving in the league, blending these young lads together, and next year it has to be a top 10 finish.

“It’s nice to have the FA Cup. The players like to play in it as it’s a nice break from the league and the money’s always nice, so it has to be a push next year for the top half of the table and I don’t’ see why we can’t do it.”

Waring has now urged his young side to continue their work ethic which helped deliver the draw with Yorkshire Amateur last week against Grimsby tomorrow.

“We’ll continue with the same team, and the same work ethic, because that’s what it’s all about.

“The lads are a young team, they’re between 17 and 21 and we’re just trying to blend it together, and as the season progresses they’re getting better and better.”
