First half goals from Jordan Preston and Jake Cassidy proved to be the difference for Guiseley.

Guiseley took the lead after fine work by Connor Brown who crossed for Preston, who was able to control the pass and slot the ball past Brendan Moore.

It got even better for the hosts when a cross by Will Hatfield found Jake Cassidy and from three yards out he made no mistake, with his powerful header going into the top right hand corner of the net.

Guiseley were dominating possession and should have been 3-0 up after gaining a penalty but Cassidy’s effort was well saved by Brendan Moore.

The Torquay keeper then made a string of impressive saves denying Preston, Adam Boyes and Cassidy, with the home side frustrated to only be two goals to the good.

The away side then nearly grabbed a goal just before half-time, a corner found Ben Gerring but his attempted effort on the half-volley looped over the post.

It was clear that the Torquay players had been given a talking to as they arrived fired up for the second-half, Luke Young almost had a free header from a cross but the ball just went over his head, then Scott Williams had a free shot in the area but he fired high and wide.

Guiseley’s nearly extended their advantage when Danny East was found in the area but he headed over.

The remainder of the game, saw both sides cancel each other out, with Guiseley pleased to be leaving with the win.
