Guiseley moved off the bottom of the National League table with a vital victory over Boreham Wood.

The Yorkshire side got the points thanks to efforts from Rob Atkinson, Will Hatfield and Jake Cassidy, with Wood getting one back through Kenny Davis.

The away side who came into the game on the back of fine form, showed slick passing and impressed in midfield.

Anthony Jeffrey’s attempted cross turned into a shot, which Guiseley’s new permanent keeper Jonny Maxted did well to tip to safety.

Wood almost took the lead when Jamie Lucas was put through on goal, his effort deflected off Danny Lowe and Maxted had to claw the shot from over his head before gathering it at the second attempt.

Jeffrey then placed almost identical crosses in the space of two minutes, that caused serious problems to the home sides defence who were relieved to see the passes go out of play without finding an attacker.

Guiseley’s only real chance in the first half fell to Jordan Preston, who on the turn looped his header towards goal, but it lacked power and was saved and it was goal less at the break.

The hosts took the lead just after half-time when Atkinson scored with a free header from a corner, despite Wood keeper Grant Smith getting a hand on it, it went in.

Guiseley just moments later were 2-0 to the good, as another cross this time found Jake Cassidy, who controlled it and passed to Will Hatfield who scored off the post on the angle.

The hosts should have been three goals to the good, when another cross led to striker Cassidy seeing his powerful effort wonderfully saved by Grant Smith.

Boreham Wood got back in the match, when Davis was found at the back post and his header crept in.

Guiseley though made the points safe when the tireless Cassidy powered home an effort on the rebound, after Hatfield had seen an effort saved.
