Guiseley defeated by high-fliers Dover

National League

Guiseley 0-4 Dover Athletic

Guiseley AFC

Guiseley remain in relegation danger after a heavy defeat to play-offs chasing Dover Athletic at Nethermoor.

Athletic scored twice through leading scorer Ricky Miller and Ricky Modeste and Ross Lafayette got one as well and they could have won by more as their class showed.

The away side started the brighter and looked dangerous throughout, first a long ball bounced through to Modeste who got the ball past the last defender but his shot went wide with Guiseley keeper Jonny Maxted closing the angle down.

Dover soon took the lead when Ricky Miller found space in the area and on the turn found the bottom corner.

Guiseley tried to find a way back into the game with a Kevan Hurst corner finding Jake Cassidy at the near post, but the strike could not direct his header on target and it drifted wide.

The second half saw Guiseley push forward with Alex Purver who recently rejoined the side from Leeds United on loan, firing a snap shot just wide.

Miller looked set to double Dover’s lead when a ball went past the Guiseley defence but his lob struck the bar.

Athletic though got their second when a cross from Moses Emmanuel found Modeste who headed it in from close range.

Dover wrapped up the win when Miller was fouled in the area by Marcus Williams, he got up and scored the penalty.

In added time Dover got a fourth when Ross Lafayette scored from the spot after being fouled by Jake Lawlor.
