All roads lead to Dronfield: Hemsworth captain Jason Yates celebrates his goal at Hall Road with Nash Connolly
Wayne Benn has warned Dronfield and Lincoln Moorlands to prepare for an invasion of Hemsworth Miners Welfare fans this week.
Champions-elect Hemsworth have booked their dates with destiny as three points at Dronfield tomorrow night will secure promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in the club’s history. A further victory at Lincoln will finally confirm the Wells as champions.
“There wasn’t a spare seat on the coach on Saturday (the 3-0 win at Hall Road),” Benn told Non League Yorkshire. “There isn’t a bus for Dronfield, but I still expect a big number going in cars.
“We’ll taking two buses to Lincoln. All the supporters are going in fancy dress to Lincoln so it is going to be an amazing day. Our fans deserve huge credit. They went to Hull and swelled the crowd. The attendance was 93 and because a lot of our supporters came in cars as well, we must have made up the majority of that.
“The fans, volunteers are a great set of people and it is a pleasure to be around this football club.
“I know other teams have won leagues, but don’t forget we’re a small team from a small mining village. This is massive and takes them to the highest ever position in the football pyramid.
“This is huge, it is history and we’re going to embrace it. We’re going to have a right knees up, but let’s get it done.”
The Wells have been simply unstoppable all season. The West Yorkshire-based side have only lost three league games and have 13 point lead at the top.
The Dronfield clash represents their first chance to get over the finish line, an opportunity the Wells chief expects his side to take.
“That was aim on Saturday, to have it in our hands on Tuesday,” Benn added.
“We expect a tough game again and I don’t think we are in flying form. We are a little bit nervy and a little bit patchy. Teams are also trying to make things difficult for us.
“We’re a very young side so it is a good learning experience for them. We have got a bit edgy at times, but generally our quality gets us through.
“To get it done and dusted on Tuesday would allow the lads to relax for Saturday when hopefully we can win the title.
“You can’t write how good a position we have got ourselves into at this stage of the season. I said to the players before Saturday, pressure is trying to get in the play-offs or come from behind to try and force yourselves into play-offs situations.
“Being 11 points clear is not a pressurised situation, it is a dream position. You should be able to go out and enjoy the game, playing like you have done all season.
“You have to remember they’re young lads and this is massive for them. It is massive for the club so there is a edginess amongst the fans, the players.
“However, we have shown the quality to get the goals to win games and hopefully that continues into Tuesday and Saturday so that by then we will be sat here celebrating what we will an unbelievable achievement.”
