Brighouse Town manager Paul Quinn
Paul Quinn is planning to strengthen his Brighouse Town strike-force after a barren run of form in front of goal.
Second-placed Brighouse have failed to score in three of their last four league fixtures. Because of injuries to the likes of Ruben Jerome, Ernest Boafo and Leon Osborne, Quinn has also had to field makeshift strikers.
The prime example being defender Dan Illingworth starring as a striker in the goal-less draw with Trafford in midweek and Quinn admitted that the stalemate underlined their problems.
“I was slightly frustrated we didn’t take three points against Trafford,” Quinn told Non League Yorkshire.
“We had a couple of good chances and plenty of possession in the first half, but ultimately in the second half I don’t think created enough in the final third for all our territory.
“It was indicative of where we are at. We are picking up points and we have had a great start, but we are finding it difficult to convert when we are on top in games. It is something we need to address.
“We’re lacking that cutting edge at the moment. The defence is an area of strength as we have been keeping clean sheets. We also having a lot of the ball.
“Recently when we played Ossett Albion at home we had 73% possession, but we couldn’t convert that into a win.
“It is alright having the ball, but you have to find the net. We definitely need to strengthen in the forward areas.
“We’re not far off in the attacking thirds, but we don’t want to be far off, we want to be one of the better attacking sides.”
Brighouse briefly went back to the top of the table on Monday night until Farsley Celtic drew with Ramsbottom United to climb back to the summit.
Both sides are on 29 points and goals difference is all what separates them. Then from third to sixth, everyone is tied on 28 points.
“It is very exciting and it is going to be extremely tight,” Quinn added.
“You look at it now and there is a dozen teams who want to get in the play-offs and we want to stay in the mix.
“It being so tight is great for the league and I would guess that the number of points to get in the play-offs will be less than it has been in previous years.
“People are capable of beating each other and it is a level playing field in that top part of the league.
“You look at Spennymoor, Darlington, Curzon, Salford, Warrington who have all been able to run away. I don’t think that there is that team with the ability to run away with it this year.”
Brighouse are away at Glossop North End.
