Hallam manager Craig Denton hopes to see departed forward Iren Wilson flourish at Liversedge.

Wilson will be playing in the NPL Premier Division for ‘Sedge this season after helping Hallam return to the top flight of NCEL football after a 11 year absence.

“We’re disappointed we weren’t able to hang onto Iren but he has ambitions to kick on his career and we obviously wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” Denton told Non League Yorkshire.

“I’m sure he’ll kick on and start impressing.

“He did great for us and really showed great development from pre-season when he first came to us.

“I wouldn’t want to highlight one individual in terms of Hallam’s success and there were other strikers who scored more goals than him (in the league).

“But he was always a threat to the opposition with his pace and that rawness supported the whole team.

“It is time for him to kick on and I’m sure he’ll do that.”

Most of Hallam’s title-winning squad have been announced as retained.

Denton says he has kept new signings to a minimum.

“Recruitment is going really well and we have made new additions,” he said.

“We’ll announce them in due course when they are able to sign their registration forms.

“The focus has been on keeping the group of players together who performed so well last season.

“It is about us continuing to improve them.

“They have already developed as players but we need to continue working with them and push them to the next level.

“We’re certainly sure they are capable of that but we need to them the tools for the NCEL Prem.

“Most of them have played at that level before but we have some fresh faces and some players who won the Division One title with us but have yet to play in the Prem.”

Hallam kick off their pre-season schedule at Kiveton Miners Welfare on Saturday.

“We have a good relationship with Kiveton and we’re going to go into it nice and steady and see how our fitness programme has affected the lads,” he said.

“We have worked really hard on fitness.”
