A number of clubs suffered unexpected defeats

It was a day for the underdogs in the Emirates FA Cup after some of the big guns were knocked out.

Highly-fancied sides such as Tadcaster Albion, Handsworth Parramore, Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Ossett Town fell to defeats in their Preliminary Round ties.

Barton Town Old Boys, AFC Emley and Pontefract Collieries have also exited the competition.

For others it was a day to remember as the likes of Thackley, Maltby Main and Armthorpe Welfare pulled off stunning victories.

Maltby won at 1874 Northwich, while Armthorpe saw off Evo Stik opposition in New Mills and Thackley won at Ashington.

Ossett Albion are also through after beating Maine Road quite comfortably.

Needing replays are Goole, who drew with Sheffield FC, and Brighouse as they were held at home by Atherton Collieries.

Farsley Celtic and Stocksbridge Park Steels will battle it out again on Tuesday at Throstle Nest.
