Hillario Serrao became the first Venezuelan to score in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League after scoring the winner in Glasshoughton Welfare’s Premier Division 1-0 victory at Basford United, writes James Grayson.
Glasshoughton have yet to win at home, but their away form is remarkable. Rob Hunter’s side have collected 20 points out of a possible 33 on their travels.
Basford had been the only team in the Division yet to lose at home until yesterday. The Basford website described Glasshoughton’s display as a “well-executed game-plan”.
Welfare had few chances, but Serrao took advantage when the decisive moment came.
New Garforth Town star Curtly Martin-Wyatt secured a point for his side in the 1-1 stalemate with Worksop Parramore at Wheatley Park.
Former Harrogate Town striker Lee Whittington gave title favourites Worksop the lead, but Wyatt had the final say when he equalised with 17 minutes to spare.
Bridlington Town returned to winning ways by smashing whipping-boys Lincoln Moorlands Railway 10-0 at Queensgate. Joel Sutton scored four, Craig Hogg and James Bennett both got doubles.
Craig Palmer and Tom Fleming scored the other goals in a game that Bridlington were leading 9-0 after just 60 minutes.
Maltby Main’s incredible upturn in form under manager Mick Norbury continued as they beat Nostell Miners Welfare 3-1 to go seventh.
William Hayton got Nostell’s goal. Nostell remain bottom with just four points.
Brighouse Town are still lurking around the top places after Paul Quinn’s men were 3-1 winners at home to Long Eaton United.
Tom Matthews scored either side of the break and Danny Nadiole sealed the points on 50 minutes.

Tadcaster Albion stuttered to a surprise 1-1 draw to the young Staveley Miners Welfare side.
Pat Lindley’s late equaliser robbed Paul Marshall’s side of top spot and three points as it cancelled out Carl Stewart’s earlier goal.
Thackley took their place at the top of the Division after they came from behind to beat manager-less Liversedge.
Matthew Morgan’s penalty secured the points.
In Division One, Selby Town continued their upsurge up the table after winning 2-0 at high-flying Bottesford Town – Tom Owen and Daniel Gray the scorers.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce remain top despite losing 3-2 to new joint leaders Cleethorpes Town.
Danny Frost had levelled for Shaw Lane early on, but Cleethorpes scored two more and Danny Barlow’s late penalty was too little too late for Aquaforce.
Yorkshire Amateur picked up another good win with a 3-2 victory at Hallam.
Curtis Bernard and Craig Heard looked to have won the game for Ammers until Adam Askworth’s 87th minute equaliser. However, Phil Harding’s men still had more in the tank and Jassim Alalli scored in the 90th to salvage a dramatic victory for the Ammers.
Eccleshill United enjoyed a 3-0 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare – Marcus Edwards (2), Daniel Holloway and Connor Shefte the scorers.
Knaresborough Town thrashed Appleby Frodingham 9-1 with Josh Garbutt getting a hat-trick.
Ex Harrogate Town forward Danny Wright got a brace as Matthew Duerden, Blaine Hobson and the Clayton brothers, Dan and Ben, got the extras.
Pontefract Collieries seem to have overcome their poor start as Nicky Handley and Duncan Bray’s side are up to sixth following a 2-0 win over Teversal – former Bradford Park Avenue full-back Rob Oldham and striker Liam Radford scored.
