Career Highlight and most memorable game: Scoring the winning last minute penalty in the 2007 Conference North play-offs final for Farsley Celtic to make it 4-3 to us. It was live on Setanta Sports and for a village club like Farsley to reach the Conference was an amazing achievement.
At 3-2 down, you’re thinking how many times can you come back? But the team spirit that season was fantastic and we were never going to beat until the final whistle was blown. We were always fighting for it and trying to create things and we didn’t just roll over like a few teams would have done. I was the penalty taker and I just picked it up and pretty much smashed it. I didn’t try and pick a spot, I just made sure I got it on target. The goalie actually got his hand to it, but it ricocheted in.
You get a lot of attention because you scored the winning goal, but right from the start, it was all about the team. It just happened to be me who took that penalty.
After the game with all the celebrations, it was absolutely unbelievable – the best feeling I have had in football. We were about to step up to play in the Football Conference where there were teams like York City, Oxford and Cambridge.
Lowest Moment in football: Being released from Leeds at 16 years-old. I stopped playing for two years after that.
Most Memorable goal: Scoring in the FA Cup first round for Emley against Rotherham at Oakwell. It was my first season at Emley and the first time I played in the first round proper of the FA Cup.
What do you hope to achieve in your future football career?: To play as long as I can, enjoy my football and win every game I’m involved in.
Funniest moment: Steve Mallory was told to bring flats for training (meaning bring trainers). Mally then on his way to training knocked on Matty James’ door to pick him up because his nickname is ‘flats’. The mistake could be understood if it wasn’t for the fact that Matty was and had been playing for Bradford Park Avenue for three seasons.
