He didn’t get the three points he wanted, but Paul Sykes made his 900th career appearance last night in AFC Emley’s 3-2 at Yorkshire Amateur.

Vastly experienced Sykes, who is also Emley’s captain, spoke on Monday about reaching the landmark game.

He was presented with a trophy to mark the occasion last night by the Ammers and their chairman Lincoln Richards. Sykes said the gesture “shows the spirit in Non League” on Twitter.

Emley remain top of the Toolstation NCEL Division One table, despite the defeat.
