Ossett Albion 0-1 Salford City

Ossett Albion were very unlucky not to get something out of this game where they matched ‘Class of 92’ club Salford City all the way.
The difference between the two sides was a superb strike from former Premier League player Danny Webber.
Albion played well in the first half and looked lively and full of ideas. Their defence coped well with the fast-moving Salford forwards who played with width and slick passing.
In spite of all Albion’s efforts Salford took the lead with their first shot on target. Webber’s curling shot from distance gave Brett Souter in the Albion goal no chance.
The second half saw Albion redouble their efforts and instead of giving up they began to trouble the Salford defence. The longer the score remained 0-1, the more nervous Salford seemed to get and the more Albion created chances and believed they could get at least a point.
Salford’s attack was limited to a couple of Webber shots which were wide of the target and another couple of chances which Souter saved well.
Albion created a couple of clear chances and with a little more luck they could have levelled. Firstly Rob Bordman did well on the right and his cross flashed across the goalmouth just inches in front of Josh Odukomaya’s outstretched foot. Then in another attack a shot evaded the Salford goalkeeper and a defender on the goal-line sliced his clearance. Unfortunately for Albion the ball went straight to the goalkeeper.
Ossett Albion: Souter, Walker (Brunt), Rothel, Riordan, Trice, Nicholson, Reece, Nelson (Odukomaya), Bordman, Muller, Grech-Brooksbank (Smith). Subs unused: Hardaker, Thompson.
