Work and family commitments have forced Clive Freeman to step down as assistant manager of Ossett Town.

Dave Merris has taken over his role after being promoted from his player-coach position by John Reed.

Freeman arrived with Reed in February after the pair were appointed as Craig Elliott’s replacement.

Freeman has had a long history with Reed having played for him when Bridlington Town went to Wembley in the FA Vase in the early 1990s and then later at Goole.

He has since acted as his assistant manager at Buxton and most recently Goole.

Ossett chairman James Rogers said: “I would like to put on record my thanks to Clive for the tireless work he has done since arriving with John in February of this year.

“We are disappointed to lose a man of his stature in the game but fully understand and respect his reasons for making this decision.

“Clive Freeman will be welcome back to the club at anytime.”
