Marshall questions Claisse red card

Paul Marshall questioned the red card given to Tom Claisse in a pivotal moment of Tadcaster Albion’s 1-0 defeat at title rivals Shaw Lane Aquaforce last night.

Claisse, who was briefly a Shaw Lane player last season, saw red three minutes into the second half for an alleged elbow on Steve Istead.

Lee Morris went onto score the winner for Aquaforce before the home side had Istead and Gary Stohrer sent off for second bookable offences.

Marshall told Non League Yorkshire: “It wasn’t a sending-off.

“It was very similar to the Jonno one (Jonathan Greening’s red card at Worksop) where the lad had hold of him and he has shrugged him off and thrown him to the ground.

“We were right there and he threw him over and didn’t elbow him. If you’re elbowed you’re going to get a cut mouth or cut nose and there was nothing wrong with him because he jumped straight back up.

“I’m disappointed with it. At the time it looked an even game and defences were on top.

“I know they score goals every week, but we have a decent defence and they looked comfortable.

“They had one good chance in the first half where they put it past the post and other than that there were long range efforts.”

Chances were few and far between in the eagerly-anticipated fixture.

The wet and soft also played a part in how the game unfolded and Marshall added: “I’m not disappointed at all, it is just a shame that it wasn’t a spectacle for the big crowd.

“We said it would probably be a 1-0 and it would be whoever makes a mistake and we made the mistake and they have punished us and got the goal.

“I would have taken a 0-0 draw because we said ‘try not to get beat’ because it was Shaw Lane who had to win.”
