Graham Nicholas wants to continue working with his young Garforth Town charges as he prepares for the final game of their season.

Garforth head to Athersley Rec for their last match of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division – a game that could be Nicholas’ final game in charge of Garforth after two seasons at the helm.

The game is three days after the brave effort in the West Riding County Cup final defeat to Bradford (Park Avenue).

Nicholas was asked if his players put themselves in the shop window because of their performances before going onto talk about his own future.

“I said to them – use this game as a platform because you were good enough to get us here to the final,” said Nicholas, whose comments in February created doubt about his future as Garforth manager.

“That in itself has been an achievement. “

He added: “We’ll end the season and then we’ll sit down and talk.

“I want to work with these players at Garforth or another club because they are fantastic.

“For me, some pro clubs should be looking at them because they are outstanding.

“We don’t play to the strengths of certain players, but good luck to these lads.

“Some of these have stepped up from the (Sheffield & Hallamshire) County Senior League and I’m privileged to be their manager and I wouldn’t want to manage anyone else while these players are here.”

Nicholas is planning to give some of his players, like Mark Simpson, who didn’t play from the statt at Valley Parade, the chance to play at Athersley.

If Garforth lose to Athersley then the Miners will probably finish in 14th.

“We want to end on a high and some players didn’t feature on Wednesday will get a chance because I want to be fair to them,” he added.

“We have got to pick ourselves up and go again at Athersley.

“It will be a good game as Athersley will want to finish above us. They’ve a got a great set of lads so I’m looking forward to going back there.”
