Dave Ricardo is staying on as Selby Town manager next season

Dave Ricardo is staying on as manager of Selby Town after a meeting with the club’s chairman Ralph Pearse.

Ricardo is the first Selby boss to remain in his post for a full campaign since long-serving Bob Lyon’s reign came to an end in 2010.

The former Beverley Town manager has guided Selby to a strong finish in the Toolstation NCEL Division One after a difficult season.

Selby have used 14 goalkeepers – a key reason for some of the poor results – but over time Ricardo has built a young and competitive squad.

They can still claim a top ten place with two games remaining.

Ricardo told Non League Yorkshire: “Over the previous week my assistant Lee Hastings and myself have met the board and last night we met the chairman to discuss the present season and how we are to move forward as a club.

“I am pleased to confirm that both Lee and myself will be staying on as the management team for the 2015/16 season.

“On a personal note this gives me the opportunity to continue the work we have started this year and carry on working hard to give the club stability and move towards the promotion places.

“We are on course to have the best season in the last seven years however I feel as though we could and should have done better with the resources we have had this season.

“The club is in a strong position in terms of young talent with bags of quality and desire.

“This coupled with a few key signings will give us the base for a good pre season and positive start come August.

“We have already confirmed a number of high quality opposition for the up coming pre season friendlies.

“I would like to say thank you to the large number of fans that follow the team week in week out, your efforts are noticed and appreciated by the players and management staff.”

Selby host Grimsby Borough on Saturday in their final home game of the Division One season.
