A decision on whether Barnsley legend Martin Devaney earns a deal at Shaw Lane Aquaforce is likely to be made in two weeks’ time.

Devaney featured in the 1-1 draw with North Ferriby United on Saturday and the news that he could be signing for Aquaforce has created excitement across Barnsley.

“It is ongoing, but nothing will be decided until Martin comes back from holiday,” Craig Elliott told Non League Yorkshire.

“He did well against a very good North Ferriby side so things are promising.

“However, whatever decision we make will be made for football reasons.”

Elliott does have some concrete signings as centre-back Muhammed Sabo and striker Lee Bennett have pledged to play for the Evo Stik Division One South new boys.

Sabo most recently played for Matlock Town, but has experience with Goole, Sheffield and Hallam.

Bennett played under Elliott at Glasshoughton Welfare during their promotion season in 2012.

In recent years he has lined up for Athersley Rec. The striker played a key role for Pontefract in their successful promotion bid at the end of last season.

Midfielder Anton Foster has now officially re-signed for Aquaforce.

Shaw Lane are also looking for a home or away friendly on Thursday night after a cancellation.
