Former Tadcaster Albion defender Will Pepper has signed for Pickering Town with less than 48 hours to go until their opening day fixture at Handsworth Parramore.

The central defender obviously appeared for the Brewers under Paul Marshall, who takes charge of Pickering in a competitive game for the first time tomorrow.

Marshall replaced Tony Hackworth at the helm of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side in May and he wants to improve on last season’s 11th place finish.

He said: “I’ve said top five would be a great finish.

“Realistically if we look at where they finished last season, 11th, I’d be disappointed if we finished any lower than that.

“We have some good players and they’re capable of doing it.

“I think it is going to be a harder year in the league because we don’t know what Brigg and Rainworth are going to be like.

“I know Ponte have a decent team and Clipstone have brought Jas Colliver and Ryan France in so they will be a good side.

“Then you look at the teams who finished above Pickering last year, they will all fancy themselves to finish in those places again.”
