Kieran Ryan scored twice and nearly got his hat-trick in AFC Emley’s 5-0 win over Worsbrough

AFC Emley emphatically responded to the Westella VIP defeat by hammering Worsbrough Bridge 5-0 at the Welfare Ground.

Three goals were scored in the final ten minutes so that doesn’t tell the story of Emley’s dominance of the proceedings

Most of the game was played in Worsbrough’s half and Emley will rue not adding more to their goal difference tally in the Toolstation NCEL Division One table.

Inside the opening 20 minutes, Emley’s top goal-scorer Ash Flynn had four guilt-edge chances. Jordan Coduri also fired wide in a good position.

Worsbrough were never in the contest and Emley set them on their way to misery with the opening goal in the 23rd minute – defender Tom Brennan scoring from a Michael Tunnacliffe corner.

Flynn soon made amends by turning home Kieran Ryan’s cross when Worsbrough were down to ten men as Jed Phillips had gone off to be treated.

The visitors did offer something in a brief moment in the second half as home goalkeeper Adam Lawlor was needed to save Jack Portman’s header.

Ultimately good chances for Emley were flying either wide of the post or high over the crossbar.

Darren Hepworth cut a frustrated figure on the touchline until a rush of goals as the game reached the closing stages.

Brennan flicked on a corner for Sam Jerome to finish off before Ryan effectively walked a goal in after Worsbrough’s defence let him through.

For the fifth, Danny Ryan’s long punt was taken down by striker Ryan on the penalty spot. Worsbrough’s defence stood and watched as Ryan’s first touch took him past goalkeeper Christian Bark – allowing a simple tap-in.

Even in the last few minutes, Emley nearly added one more, but the post denied Ryan his hat-trick.
