No complaints over County Cup PP

West Riding

Captain Andy Hawksworth was denied his 100th Garforth Town appearance after heavy rain forced referee Ken Haycock to postpone the West Riding County Cup first round tie with Yorkshire Amateur.

The pitch was playable at 6.30pm until the intense thunderstorm arrived and left part of the field under water.

The match is expected to be rearranged for next Tuesday.

Garforth manager Graham Nicholas said: “I think the weather could have had a massive impact on the pitch so I wouldn’t want to cause any harm to the pitch because I know that (chairman) Brian (Close) works extremely hard on it.

“Overall it was a good decision.”

The Ammers also had no complaints as they had arrived with an understrength team due to various reasons.

Joint manager Rick Addy said: “It is waterlogged and we definitely wouldn’t have finished the game.

“We had a young side out so we were giving lads from the reserves a chance. We have eight missing at the moment through holidays, injuries and suspensions.

“But, it is a shame in someways because I wanted to have a look at some of the younger lads.”
