It was a heart-breaking finish for Westella VIP and manager Leon Sewell

Brothers Brett and Reece Lucas teamed up to incredibly turn an impending defeat into an unlikely victory with two injury-time goals for Glasshoughton Welfare.

Glasshoughton looked done for in the eventual 2-1 win over Westella VIP as a first half penalty from Alex Wood appeared good enough for Leon Sewell’s men.

Debutant Reece, who only signed for Welfare from AFC Mansfield on Friday, went through the mill on his debut as he conceded the spot kick for Westella’s goal.

Welfare tried to come back with Josh Morley shooting just over and Ashley Scothern then poked the ball past keeper Nathan Otley only to see the ball kicked off the line.

Just before half-time Kingsley Wetherald saw his chip shot collected under the bar and at the other end Watson made a great save with his feet to deny a second for Westella.

Welfare opened the second half well with Scothern heading just wide and Nathan Perks chipped a shot just over the bar. Morley had a fierce shot blocked, but then for Westella, Chris Short hit the ball straight at Watson’s hands from point blank range.

It looked as though Welfare would suffer another defeat as the referee indicated four minutes of injury time.

However, there was to be an incredible twist. Scothern shot wide but then in the third minute of added time the ball reached Reece Lucas some 20 yards out and he unbelievably volleyed the ball over the Westella defence and into the far corner of the goal.

The drama was completed a minute later when Morley hit a free kick into the penalty area and Brett Lucas managed to divert the ball past Otley with his head to spark wild scenes.
