Ossett Albion moved to within one point of the Evo Stik Division One North play-offs after thrash fourth-placed Clitheroe 6-1 in an ill-tempered affair at Dimple Wells.

Rob Bordman scored twice for the third week running with chairman Dominic Riordan, Connor Brunt, Nicky Matthews and Luke Porritt adding the damage.

Clitheroe finished with nine men, while Albion’s George Green was also sent off.

Constant heavy rain made it difficult for the either side to play good football. Nevertheless the first half did produce some play of quality but it was nothing when compared to the second half when Albion made the most of their extra man.

Clitheroe started the brighter and created some good moves but were unable to find a finish.

Albion held on and made the breakthrough just before the half-hour mark when Riordan, on his return from injury, headed a near-post corner past Benjamin Woodhead in the Clitheroe goal.

Albion doubled their lead when the ball fell to Brunt who was unmarked in front of goal, and he made no mistake. Things got heated then when Clitheroe’s player/manager Simon Garner was sent off for a second bookable offence, shortly to be followed by Louis Mayers.

Green, who had only just come on as a substitute, was then sent off for a mis-timed challenge.

With things settling down, Albion relaxed too much and allowed Clitheroe to get a goal back through Sefton Gonzales.

Once the home side had regained their two-goal advantage through Bordman, they began to run riot and got further goals from Matthews and Porritt.

Inevitably it was Bordman who finished things off with a penalty in the last minute of the match.

Ossett Albion: Souter, Dawson, Hardaker, Claisse, South, Riordan (Nicholson), Brunt (Porritt), Paylor, Bordman, Matthews, Muller (Green). Subs unused: Bower, Thompson.
