Winterton Rangers are heading in the right direction, despite being sucked back into the bottom two, insists Lee Hastings.
The Toolstation NCEL Division One relegation battle has hotted up with the arrival of Paul Walden at Grimsby Borough.
Grimsby have been reborn and look a good bet to easily survive now. Their resurgent has dragged four further into the fight which has meant that Winterton might need more points than originally targeted.
Hastings told Non League Yorkshire: “It has got more interesting, but I don’t worry about the teams in and around us.
“I just concentrate on Winterton, full stop.
“If we can keep moving forward, I’ll have no issues. I’m confident that by the end of the season that we’ll be nowhere near the bottom two and looking to rebuild for the new season.
“In terms of where we are going, I am very happy with the way we are moving forward.
“We are becoming hard to beat over the last few games which has been the key thing for us.
“We are scoring goals, but conceding goals at the other end which is something we need to work on.”
Hastings also confirmed that he is continuing to add to his Winterton squad. When he was appointed in September, he inherited a side that had collected one point after seven matches so he has to reshape it.
“I’ve said to the chairman that getting a settled side is going to be a process that will go on well after Christmas,” he added.
“Players coming in and out will be forever revolving until after Christmas.
“There’s no quick-fix when you’re rebuilding a side, but from where we were when I took over to where we now, I’m certainly happy with the progress made.”
