Harrogate Railway’s attempts to turn into first gear in their pursuit of fellow relegation candidates Ossett Town again failed.
Despite a good first half display, it was not Railway’s night. Just like the 5-1 defeat to Glossop on Saturday, Harrogate conceded late second half goals.
Playing at Station View for the first time in 2016, Railway took the game to their play-offs chasing visitors in the early exchanges. Recent signing Nathan Curtis made Spennymoor goalkeeper Daniel Lowson work with a notable thunderous effort.
Lowson’s opposite number Tom Goodwin then denied David Dowson. But, Railway’s hard work was undone when Goodwin spilled a corner, presenting Nathan Fisher with an easy finish.
Goodwin did redeem himself with a stunning save after Railway backed off and allowed Mark Anderson to launch a long range strike that was heading for the top corner.
Railway struggled to find any rhythm in the second half. Spennymoor were comfortably seeing the proceedings out when the home side conceded a penalty. Joe Tait sent Goodwin the wrong way from the spot.
Goodwin dropped another corner, directly into his own net, moments later after pressure from Gavin Cogdon.
Spennymoor striker Dowson rubbed salt in the wounds after racing through and scoring with a powerful low drive.
