Grant Black’s reign as manager of Ossett Town began in perfect fashion as his side put a five-point buffer between themselves and fellow strugglers Harrogate Railway.

It wasn’t straightforward though as Ossett had to come from behind to end a dreadful run of nine straight league defeats and pick up their first Division One North win since September.

As expected, Black made a few changes to the Ossett line-up. Ben Hunter was dropped meaning a recall for former Farsley goalkeeper Chris Backhouse. Debuts were handed to Steve Ridley, Alex Peterson and Danny Frost. Jack Wakefield also started in midfield.

Play-offs chasing Burscough went in front from a free kick before Ossett’s day got worst when captain Nick Wood went off with a hamstring injury.

However, luck was on Town’s side. Headline signing Frost forced the equaliser with a close range finish close to half-time.

The former Shaw Lane Aquaforce striker then turned provider for Peterson to score the winner midway through the second half.

Ossett Town: Backhouse, Hawksworth, Ridley, Wakefield, Wood (captain), Kilner, Farnhill, Phillis, Peterson, Frost, Brown. Subs: Siddall, Assenso, Moore, Shelton, Hepworth.
