Runaway leaders Hemsworth Miners Welfare completed a hat-trick of victories over promotion rivals after the tricky ‘away’ fixture with Hull United.

Defeating crisis club Hull means Hemsworth only need five more wins to secure their historic promotion to the Premier Division. Six is enough for the title.

No-one can dispute that Hemsworth deserve to go up, especially after having the guts and energy to beat rivals AFC Mansfield, Shirebrook Town and Hull in consecutive fixtures.

Hemsworth struck at the right times with Nash Connolly heading the Wells in front on the stroke of half-time.

Hull goalkeeper Phil Dobson then conceded a penalty five minutes into the second half. Hemsworth captain Jason Yates dispatched the spot kick.

Gary Bradshaw pulled Hull back into it during the middle of a good period for the ‘home side’, but Paul Foot’s red card gave the momentum back to the Wells.

An own goal sealed Hemsworth’s victory eight minutes from time.
