Liversedge’s return to Clayborn after over 100 days could not have gone much better as their survival hopes received a huge shot in the arm.

The Premier Division’s basement side heavily bolstered their squad and one of those signings, Jimmy Eyles, that fired them in front.

‘Sedge’s dual-registered Sheffield FC attacker Benny Igeon then missed a penalty.

That did not matter as defender Joe Walton forced the ball home from a corner on the half-hour mark.

Eyles added his second goal of the night in the second half to seal ‘Sedge’s victory.

Jack Mawson scored a late consolation for Pontefract.

At the other end of the table, Pickering Town climbed into the top six with the 3-1 win at Thackley.

Ryan Cooper, Mitch Hamilton and Lewis Taylor scored for Pickering.

There were also two County Cup games taking place. Handsworth Parramore striker Kieron Wells destroyed Worksop Town in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Wells scored all four goals for Parramore in the 4-2 victory.

Holders Bridlington Town are through to the East Riding Senior Cup semi-finals after overcoming Westella VIP in a 3-2 win.

Westella took the lead through Lewis Andrews before Chris Jenkinson, Ryan Nicholls and Andy Norfolk hit back for Bridlington.

Luke Salas set up a frantic finale with Westella’s second goal in the closing stages.
