Robbie O’Brien retired from the game with a goal in Farsley Celtic’s final day victory over Radcliffe Borough.

The Farsley captain announced his retirement on Thursday after a glittering career which has also taken in successful stints with Ossett Town and Bradford (Park Avenue). He was also given a guard of honour as he left the Throstle Nest field.

O’Brien wasted no-time in getting his goal as within four minutes of the start, the midfielder had buried Lewis Nightingale’s pass.

Aiden Savory was denied the chance to double Farsley’s lead as his penalty was saved by Chris Cheetham after Nathan Valentine was sent off for handling Adam Clayton’s header.

Cheetham was unable to save Paul Walker’s curled strike straight after half-time.

Radcliffe pulled a late goal back through Elliott Rokka.

Farsley Celtic: Lofthouse, Hardy, Grant, Clayton, Miller, O’Brien (captain), Howarth, Nightingale, Savory, Walker, Sugden. Subs: Bunch, Taylor, Daly, Connor.
