Red hot Kai Hancock scored the winner for Athersley against manager-less and goal-less Armthorpe, who somehow missed two late penalties.

The game was goalless going into half time, although the Welfare did go close on a couple of occasions, but Athersley took the lead through leading goalscorer Kai Hancock in the 49th minute.

In the 70th minute the Welfare had a chance to score their first goal of the campaign when they were awarded a penalty but McLaughlin saw his spot-kick saved by Neal May.

Then in injury time the Welfare were awarded their second penalty of the game but yet again were unable to take advantage leaving Athersley to claim the 1-0 win.
